Phone scams… email scams… they’re everywhere!
A couple of things you should know: The Government DOES NOT CALL YOU. The IRS, Social Security Administration, any and all US Government agencies DO NOT CALL. They mail letters. That is the only official form of communication.
Another scam involves emails from hospitals trying to contact you that you may have been in contact with someone who has the COVID-19 virus… and to click here to (report your status/get more information/something else). Hospitals do not email you.
And neither will the US government. If you get an email like this, it’s a scam – ignore it.
If you get a call from a US Government agency, hang up – it’s a scam.
And no, the police will not call you to tell you someone you know is in jail and they need bail money. The police won’t call you for money, nor will they accept Apple Gift Cards as payment.
